The third generation Akazawa Roseki (1900-1993) was born in Takefu, Tsuruga, and married into a family in Kyoto. Together with her husband, Akazawa Shuzo, the second generation Akazawa Roseki (1897-1976), they established themselves as ceramic artists under the name Akazawa Roseki. They repeatedly won awards and selections at the Nou-ten, Japan’s first open-call craft exhibition (the predecessor of the Nitten), laying the foundation for modern ceramics.
